Here are the stories making headlines today.
A 42-year-old Mount Vernon man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a deadly stabbing last year. Rasheed Binns, 42, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter last August. Authorities say an argument led to Binns stabbing 56-year-old Robert Higgins, of New Rochelle. Binns' fiancée, 39-year-old Leah Guy, of Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty to attempted hindering prosecution in the second-degree last August and was sentenced to a conditional discharge that same day.
Police in Orange County say a 14-year-old stopped a home invasion with a baseball bat. Hudson police say 31-year-old Matthew McNamara, from Walden, broke into the home of a family he didn't know on Sept. 30 at Hudson Terrace Apartments in Hudson, New York. Authorities say McNamara began smashing property, attacking the victim, and tried to drag her outside with her children and a friend present. The victim's 14-year-old son defended her with a baseball bat. McNamara is facing several charges including burglary, assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police say four people were arrested and charged in a drug bust in New Rochelle. Police raided an apartment on Lockwood Avenue Wednesday after getting complaints about drug activity. Detectives say they found crack cocaine, heroin, Xanax pills and scales.
