Police say a Putnam Valley man died in an excavating accident last week. Alfred Mosiello Jr., 42, was operating a backhoe at his when he lost control. He was ejected landing between a tree and the backhoe. Mosiello was pronounced dead at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. Visitation will be on May 9 at the Yorktown Funeral Home, and a mass will be held May 10 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak.
Two people are recovering from nonlife-threatening injuries after jumping from a burning building in Newburgh on Saturday. Fire crews responded to a fire on city terrace around 6:45 a.m. Crews found the two people in the backyard. 12 victims are also being helped by the Red Cross.
Officials say an Indian man was arrested for allegedly swindling over $30,000 from an elderly woman in Liberty. The 76-year-old victim was contacted by Him-A-Chal Sagar for help with a computer virus. Sagar instructed her to withdraw money from her bank account to prevent hackers from access it. He then showed up at her house and took the money, promising to deposit it into a safer account. Police found Sagar at a motel in Binghamton and charged him with grand larceny.
