HEADLINES: Sex abuse at day care facility, lacrosse star dies, fights at Poughkeepsie HS

Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
An Orange County man is accused of sexually abusing someone at a day care facility in Newburgh. According to state police, Rudy Rodriguez, 40, has been charged with sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. There is no word on when or how the incident happened. Rodriguez was arraigned and released on bail. Police say the day care was not licensed.
The Suffern community is mourning the loss of a former high school star athlete. Madie Nipcon died on Sunday following an accident at Tufts University. Nipcon, who graduated from Suffern High School in 2019, was a lacrosse player. Police say it happened at an off-campus house. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist family in covering funeral and medical expenses.
Police were called to Poughkeepsie High School Tuesday afternoon after multiple fights broke out in the building. A large fight broke out around 1 p.m., which caused a "stay in place" to be issued. City of Poughkeepsie police tell News 12 the fight happened as the school resource officer was looking into what caused a fight there earlier this year - a few incidents that News 12 has reported on. The SRO and school staff were not able to de-escalate the situation. Because there were so many students involved, city and Town of Poughkeepsie police were needed. There was no word if there were any injuries, but police say an ambulance was called for a student who was having trouble breathing. Police are continuing an investigation into what happened. Any disciplinary action will be handled by the school district..
