Here are some local stories making headlines this Friday.
Shots were fired from one moving car to another in Yonkers. Police say it appears shots were fired Thursday afternoon on Sterling Avenue between McLean and Scott avenues. The vehicles quickly took off. It's still unclear what may have caused the shooting. No injuries were reported, but there was minor property damage reported from stray bullets.
A Mount Vernon man will spend 30 years behind bars for murder. Marquis Collier, 29, pleaded guilty to killing 13-year-old Shamoya McKenzie in 2016. The young teen, who was an innocent bystander, died during a shooting between two rival gangs.
Police are searching for four men who stole $13,000 in perfume from a store in the Hudson Valley. Officials say they ran into an Ulta in Woodbury with empty shopping bags and swiped boxes of perfume off shelves and ran out within seconds. A woman saw the incident unfold from the parking lot and took a picture of a license plate, which police confirm is from one of two vehicles believed to be involved. Authorities say this store has been hit two other times since March and that the same group of people could be to blame, as well as for other larcenies at Ulta stores in New Jersey.
An update on an excavator rollover in Wurtsboro. State police say the operator, 54-year-old Kevin McCombs, suffered injuries to his legs after it flipped, and he was pinned inside the machine while working at JML Quarry on Wednesday. The Liberty man was taken by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center. Police say McCombs is now in stable condition.
