Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine has officially been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use authorization.
Pfizer's CEO tweeted an encouraging word to citizens Friday, saying "Today, we can to turn millions of Americans' hopes into a reality."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he expects to get the vaccine in New York as early as Sunday or Monday.
The first batch of doses will go to health care workers and long-term care facilities, but officials are now facing the challenge of how to make people comfortable with the vaccine.
Dr. Anthony Fauci told News 12 that there is a counter argument against any skepticism or concern.
"The process was the quickest we've done because of the extraordinary advances before to make the vaccine," Fauci says.
The FDA also sought to reassure the public by releasing a statement, saying: "In making this determination, the FDA can assure the public and medical community that it has conducted a thorough evaluation of the available safety, effectiveness and manufacturing quality information."
