A competency hearing was held today to determine if the accused killer of a teacher from Valley Cottage is fit to stand trial.
Eric Lau, 32, has been charged with killing his neighbor, Jami Erlich, last year.
At the hearing earlier today, a court-appointed clinical psychologist said Lau said he failed to understand why he was in jail, and claimed spirits in the form of baseballs told him what to do.
The hearing is scheduled to continue Dec. 21, with two more expert witnesses expected to take the stand.
