A fifth grade student in Rockland County is recovering after being treated for dehydration.

It happened shortly after school began Tuesday at Elmwood Elementary School.

East Ramapo School District officials say the child was outside, sitting under a tree when they started to feel ill.

The student was treated and is OK.

One parent says the heat is a big concern: "You need to be careful with the heat and everything, have to send them water."

District officials say a “Heat Plan” is in place at all schools.

They also said some schools are fully air-conditioned, while others have portable air conditioners.

Water is also available for everyone.
