High-risk winter sports pushed back to Jan. 4
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association pushed back the start of high-risk winter sports to Jan. 4.
High-risk sports include basketball, wrestling, ice hockey and competitive cheerleading.
Moving back to January would give schools more time to prepare for those sports.
As of now, low and moderate risk winter sports have the OK to start on Nov. 30. Those sports include bowling, gymnastics, indoor track & field, skiing, and swimming and diving.
Section I officials are still discussing if they can pull those off.
The big issue is many of the sports are held at places off school grounds.
