Highland Falls man convicted of raping child he used to babysit
A 32-year-old Highland Falls man has been convicted of five counts of rape of a child he allegedly used to babysit.
Charles Burgher was convicted of sexually assaulting the child between August and November 2022.
Burgher and the victim's family were neighbors in Highland.
On Nov. 7, the mother of the victim filed a missing person's report when her child did not return home from school.
An investigation led law enforcement officials to the 9W Motel in Lake Katrine, where the child was recovered safely.
Burgher has been remanded without bail pending sentencing on Dec. 8.
He faces significant time in state prison.
