House destroyed in Pine Island fire; 2 firefighters treated for heat exhaustion

Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours; no other injuries were reported.

A house was destroyed in a Monday evening fire in Pine Island that sent two firefighters to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

According to the Pine Island Fire Department, crews responded to a structure fire on Mission Land Road at approximately 6:40 p.m.

The fire department said the home was destroyed. Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion. No other injuries were reported.

Mutual aid was provided by the Warwick Fire Department, Florida Fire Department, Wawayanda Fire Company–Slate Hill Fire Department (FAST) and the Pine Island Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 10:53 p.m.
