House in New Square that was subject of protests vandalized
A house in New Square that was the subject of recent protests was vandalized.
Police say part of the house on Eisenhower Avenue was knocked to the ground. The three-family home that also housed two businesses was recently purchased through foreclosure by a California-based real estate investor who evicted the families and the businesses.
It was the first home in the Hasidic community to be bought by someone not of the same faith and who was possibly going to rent to non-Hasidics. That led to protests in front of the house. The incident is now under criminal investigation by the Ramapo police.
