Flights in and out of the Hudson Valley Monday morning were running smoothly, despite more delays at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The FAA issued a ground stop at Newark early Sunday morning that lasted about 45 minutes. This was the third time in recent weeks that Newark has dealt with air traffic controller connectivity issues.
The agency says it was due to a telecommunications issue over at Philadelphia TRACON Area C.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced a plan to have a reduction of flights at Newark for the "next several weeks" in the name of safety. Details are unclear at this time, but he says the cuts would depend on the time of day, like in the afternoon when international flights come in.
Duffy says it remains safe to travel in and out of Newark.
Newark is the only airport within the New York City region that has been having these issues.
Westchester County Airport, Stewart International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport were all running on or close to schedule. Still, travelers were encouraged to check with their specific carrier for delays and cancellations before heading to the airport.
