A tropical storm watch is in effect for southern Westchester as Hurricane Earl approaches the Northeast coastline before the Labor Day weekend.
It's not clear if Hurricane Earl will hit the Hudson Valley directly, but people living in coastal areas are being advised that surf conditions will still be greatly impacted by the storm.
Harbormasters and boat owners spent the day securing their boats or taking them out of the water all together.
Local officials have also been meeting to discuss emergency plans in case towns lose power or flooding occurs.
