The nearly 15,000 migrants at the Texas border encampment are now gone, but the thousands now applying for asylum are now facing their latest hurdle – settling in.
Spring Valley Village Trustee Eudson Tyson Francois is helping with the transition. He flew to San Antonio, Texas over the weekend to help the thousands of Haitian migrants make their next move.
"There's so much happening, I don't even have any cards left. I've given out over 50 cards to these families so they can contact me directly when they get to their respective cities," said Francois.
He's serving as a translator for migrants now making their way across the country to stay with friends and family - including in the Hudson Valley.
Volunteers like Francois are also helping families with things like securing a lawyer and finding a way home.
"My goal is to try and help them as much as I can and try to see what I can do," says Francois.
