Concerns over a state road on the New Castle/Ossining border are growing.

Neighbors say a crash there last week highlights the need for action.

“The road is incredibly bumpy, very dangerous. We have speeding, I had someone pass me over the double yellow lines," says George Seitz who, lives near Route 133.

The crash happened last Monday on Route 133 near the corner of Edgewood Road. Police said a car crashed into a pole.

People who live along Route 133, also known as Somerstown Road, have been telling News 12 for months about their concerns.

“I’ve personally been scared a couple times that when I hit something, my tire has popped," says New Castle resident Laura Flores.

Some of those concerns include potholes, drainage issues and speeding, according to residents.

The Somerstown Road Action Network was formed to address the problems and push for improvements.

"This is a priority as we can see with this near disaster, and it’s really important for anybody that’s coming in and out of our towns to really pay attention to the people that are demanding that something get done," says Howard Fleischer, who is with the Somerstown Road Action Network.

Police say unsafe speed was a contributing factor in last Monday's crash.

They say no one was seriously hurt.

NYSDOT previously sent News 12 the following statement:

"The safety of the traveling public is always our top priority. NYSDOT maintenance crews work aggressively to address potholes. Our engineers are in the process of developing a long term solution for pavement restoration along State Route 133."
