Despite the rising cost of gasoline, many residents in Westchester and Hudson Valley say the are traveling for Memorial Day weekend.
As the unofficial start of summer commences, drivers are faced with traffic and a big hit to their wallets. Gas prices have skyrocketed in Westchester County, where the price for a gallon is 30 cents higher than the national average, according to AAA. Many people say it is cheaper in the long run to take a train, bus or plane to their destination.
While the weekend will be filled with barbeques and road trips, many residents say the high gas prices will keep them closer to home for the remainder of the summer.
