Residents in the
Hudson Valley with comorbidities or certain underlying conditions can now sign
up to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
As of Sunday morning, those with pre-existing
conditions and comorbidities can now register for vaccines using the
"Am I
Eligible" website.
New appointments are being released on a rolling
basis, over the next several weeks.
Pregnant women and those with underlying
conditions, like cancer, obesity and heart and neurological conditions are
included in the latest category.
However,
infectious disease specialist Dr. Harish Moorjani says some patients have told
him maneuvering the online registration has been problematic.
"I've been hearing that from my patients
for a long time now," he says. "There
is a huge demand and not enough supply, that's what we're told. As supply
improves, this disparity between supply and demand should start to ease up, and
we should start to see more openings for appointments."
You will need proof of your
condition in the form of a note from your doctor,
medical records proving comorbidity or
a signed certification.
Dr. Moorjani says residents just
need to be patient in the meantime.
"Continue to practice personal protection,
by masks, handwashing and you will get through this," he says.
