The Barstool Fund surprised an Orange County bar with a large monetary donation for its nonstop hard work in 2020.
Jane McMahon, owner of Irish Eyes Bar in New Windsor, received an unexpected call from Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy and couldn’t believe what he told her next.
The Cornwall woman describes the experience as winning the lotto for her family and small business.
“The money they gave me was tremendous,” says McMahon. “When we saw Dave’s face on my phone, it was just amazing. I was like, 'How did you find us in New Windsor, New York?'”
Unbeknownst to the bar owner, her daughter wrote to the fund in December as a Christmas surprise.
News 12 is told the money came at the right time after McMahon worked a year of round-the-clock shifts to cut costs.
“I haven’t taken a check since March,” says McMahon.
Thanks to a generous donation from Coors Light, the owner will receive monthly payments to cover the bar’s expenses until it’s no longer needed.
While she won’t share the exact amount of money she’ll receive, she tells News 12 it’s enough to save her business.
“It was a huge relief having that money come in and then knowing if I need it next month, it’ll still come in,” says McMahon.
The Barstool Fund has raised $34 million to assist small businesses nationwide since December 2020.
