Hundreds of people turned out to participate in Ray’s 21st annual Polar Plunge in Rye.
The event is an annual fundraiser organized by the Westchester Triathlon Committee.
“All proceeds are going to charity. We're freezing for a reason, we got a nice warm day outside, but the water temp is probably 38 degrees or so,” said organizer Phillip Gormely.
“Today we're going to be honoring Norbert Galligan, who is a Rye resident and volunteer here for the last five years. We lost Norbert in a bike accident,” he said.
Rye residents appreciate the motivation behind the event.
“It's an annual tradition, we love it. It's for a great cause. It's an awesome way to start the year, so happy New Year everybody,” said participant Brian Finnegan.
