With the first heat wave of the summer sweeping across the tri-state area, cooling centers have been opened in Orange and Rockland counties to accommodate those who don't have air conditioning.
Cooling centers sprung up in towns like Ramapo, Middletown and Hillburn to help people beat the heat as the mercury climbed into the 90s Tuesday.
Some people like Laurie Sylvester, of Spring Valley, chose to cool down by going to the pool, while others spent the day indoors, staying in an air-conditioned room and drinking water.
