HV runner recalls Boston Marathon terror attack

A Hudson Valley runner who was at the site of the Boston Marathon attack four years ago recalled the incident to News 12 today.

Nyack Middle School special education teacher Patrick Parietti had just finished his ninth Boston Marathon back in 2013 when chaos erupted. Two bombs went off near the finish line, killing three people and wounding nearly 300.

"I just remember trying to get out of there because they were trying to get people to get out of the area,” he says.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan set off the pair of homemade bombs at the finish line. The two also killed a police officer on the MIT campus.

In the end, Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was eventually caught. In 2015, a federal jury sentenced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death for his role in the terror attack.

Despite the scare, Parietti returned to Boston in 2014 to run the marathon again. He says he still gets choked up thinking about the warm people in Boston that year.

Parietti has not run in the Boston Marathon since 2014. He says he's working on getting back in shape and hopes to compete again next year.
