A Con Edison supervisor says he witnessed a Dobbs Ferry police officer as he was stabbed in the head during an apparent unprovoked attack.
The ConEd team was out laying new gas lines in Dobbs Ferry Thursday, and the officer was there to protect the crew.
Timothy Brennan says he was chatting with the veteran officer when a man, who police identified as Matthew Burke, allegedly came up behind the officer and attacked him.
He says the suspect took off, leaving the sergeant in a pool of blood. Brennan called 911 and performed first aid on the officer as he fought for his life
"At one point, he checked his hand to see how much he was bleeding and realized how much he was bleeding and he said, 'If I bleed out, tell my wife and kids that I love them,'" said Brennan
That sergeant was rushed to the hospital and has since been released, thanks in part to the help he received from all the members of the construction team.
Matthew Burke is facing an attempted murder charge and other felony counts.
