Immigrants in the Bronx joined in a nationwide rally for changes to immigration laws Monday.
At exactly 12:16 p.m., immigrant workers, business owners and community members in the Bronx and across the city stopped what they were doing to protest. Some immigrants created a human chain that stretched along Fordham Road from Jerome to Webster avenues. The immigrants say the chain was a visual demand for immigration reform. After the rally in Fordham, many headed to Union Square to take part in the citywide rally.
Organizers of the rallies are called Monday the "National Day of Action" and "A Day Without Immigrants." All immigrants were called on to boycott work, school and shopping to show how much undocumented workers are needed in the communities.
