As Washingtonville farmers cope with devastating floods, they also have to think about a pending insurance deadline.
Representatives from the state's agriculture division spent Friday assessing the damage in Orange County. They are hoping to get federal and state funding through the USDA for the area?s flood-weary farmers. Debuc's Sod Farm in Pine Island is completely submerged under water from the Wallkill River, which flooded almost every single farm in Pine Island.
A major concern for farmers is the May 10 planting deadline for crop insurance. They must spend time this weekend pumping out water in an attempt to get their crops in the ground by that date.
