An investigation is underway in Putnam County after a crate containing ferrets was discovered abandoned.

The ferrets were found inside a crate at the Park and Ride on Route 311 in Patterson.

A concerned citizen alerted the New York State Police, who subsequently contacted the county SPCA.

The animals have since been transported to a local small animal expert who is providing care for them.
