An investigation is underway into what sparked a fire at a historic mansion in Hyde Park.

The fire happened the morning of New Year's Day at Crumwold Hall on Mansion Drive.

"It was scary, it was definitely a pretty serious fire," says John Farrell, who lives nearby.

It was all hands on deck to get the flames under control. The emergency response lasted for hours, as crews made sure the hotspots were put out.

The mansion has been a part of the community since the 1800s. It was turned over to a religious organization, Millennial Kingdom Family Church, in the 1980s.

The fire displaced 11 people. Neighbors call the damage devastating.

"It's something we grew up seeing," Farrell tells News 12.

No injuries have been reported, according to emergency crews.
