The Iona Prep baseball team held on to its title in the Catholic League with a narrow victory Tuesday over worthy adversary Fordham Prep.
The Iona Gaels and Fordham Rams were tied at 4 in the fifth inning when Iona's Adam Hernandez ripped the ball into right-centerfield, bringing in two runs. The Gaels took a 6-4 lead.
The Rams rallied when John Lewis scored, cutting the lead by one. That's as close as Fordham got. Joseph O'Hagan ground into the 5-4-3 double play and Iona beat Fordham to win the Bronx-Westchester Division title 6-5.
