UPDATE: IronMan has announced they will not proceed with the 70.3 New York triathlon in Jones Beach this Saturday, Sept. 26, due to a coastal storm impacting the region.
In a Facebook post, they say registered athletes will receive a separate communication outlining their options, including details regarding the possibility of a rescheduled event.

A powerful nor'easter slated to hit the region this weekend is already disrupting local events, forcing cancellations and sending organizers scrambling for contingency plans as residents keep a close eye on the forecast.
Athletes preparing for major endurance competitions face mixed updates. While the Hamptons Marathon has been officially canceled due to severe weather concerns, the Ironman Triathlon at Jones Beach is still moving forward.
Nearly 4,000 athletes are expected to take part in this year’s Ironman triathlon on Saturday, but an approaching nor’easter could impact race conditions.
Athletes picking up their race bibs Thursday said they remain confident the event will go on, despite the uncertain forecast.
Umair Sheikh, of Brooklyn, has spent the past year training for the race. He said difficult weather is part of the challenge.
“I've done tons of endurance races, lots of fun. I don't care about some rain, I don't care about some wind, rain or shine I am going to be racing this weekend,” Sheikh said.
New York State Parks officials say a contingency plan is in place if weather conditions become a concern. The plan is still being amended.
George Gorman, regional director for New York State Parks on Long Island, said officials will meet with Ironman representatives Saturday.
Southampton Village police announced on Facebook that the Hamptons Marathon this weekend will be canceled because of the nor’easter.
The announcement comes days after uncertainty about whether the storm would impact the marathon. The Facebook post says predicted high winds and heavy rains could impact the course.
Other seasonal events across the island are adjusting operations to accommodate the incoming storm.
The Long Island Fair in Old Bethpage remains ongoing with weather-related adjustment. Organizers are offering ticket transfers or refunds for attendees who prefer to stay home.
The Heritage Farm and Garden in East Norwich plans to stay open, though staff noted visitors have until Nov. 1 to use their tickets if they choose to postpone their visit.
