Trash, rats, and garbage bags can be found all over the sidewalk at 615 East 189th St, in Belmont.

Resident John Lonske says this has been an ongoing issue for weeks.

"We have rats, it smells, filth, sewage, the bags leak all over the sidewalk," said Lonske.

The supers of the building started to bag up the piles of trash as News 12 got to the building.

News 12 spoke with one of the supers and asked why they waited weeks to start clearing the sidewalk.

"We didn't have the bags to be able to pick up the garbage so we received the materials so now we're picking up the trash," said Sebastian.

Multiple sanitation tickets are found in the lobby due to the trash being left. Lonske says he's fed up.

"It's just a terrible mess, I've lived here 12 years and I haven't seen anything like it," said Lonske.

Now that the garbage has been piled into bags, the super of the building says it should be picked up during the next trash pick up.

News 12 reached out to management and they said the trash is being taken care of.
