27ds agoText messages sent to people of color following the presidential election are taking social media by storm.
The messages contain themes of slavery. The messages sent to men, women and even students of color already reported in several states - even here at home.
"I hope that we're not in a world that we would essentially allow this to happen, especially not in this area. I think that when you see these things come out, I want to look at them as opportunities to address them," said Lehman College professor Laura Roberts.
The messages claim the receicpient has been chosen to "pick cotton" at a nearby plantation.
In a statement, Attorney General Letitia James called the texts racist and disgusting. AG James says New Yorkers who receive these texts should report them to the attorney general's civil rights bureau or file a complaint online.
