 Thousands remain without power as Ocean County suffers damage from Wednesday’s stormsOne of the hardest hit areas during Wednesday’s storms, in terms of power outages, was Ocean County.
Primary challenger accuses DA Scarpino of brushing allegations against police under the rug: Westchester District Attorney Anthony Scarpino's primary challenger is accusing him of brushing serious allegations against Mount Vernon police officers under the rug - just weeks before the election.News 12 spoke with Mount Vernon Police Officer Murashea Bovell back in November. Bovell filed a lawsuit against city officials and the police department.At the time, he said that for 12 years he had been subject to racist comments and witnessed officers perform serious misconduct, including working with drug dealers to bring up arrest counts. He gave News 12 recordings in which police officers could be heard allegedly calling him a rat for reporting misconduct.
Massive fire breaks out at Copiague churchA major fire broke out at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Copiague Wednesday afternoon. Photos show firefighters at the scene of the church, located on Molloy Street. Tall flames and thick black smoke billowed from the roof of the building. According to police, multiple departments responded to the scene. They say the fire began in the auditorium.
Stamford police roll up their sleeves to donate in department blood drive:   Stamford police rolled up their sleeves Wednesday to donate at a department blood drive. Officer Jessica Bloomberg organized the drive at police headquarters. She says over 100 officers, along with a few firefighters from Stamford Fire Rescue, signed up to donate blood. Representatives for the Red Cross say one donation can save up to three lives. They say demand is way up, as pandemic restrictions lift and hospitals start offering elective surgeries again.
Family-owned business vandalized amid height of Fordham Road lootingA family-owned business on Fordham Road was vandalized by more than 100 people during the height of violent looting. Store surveillance video shows the crowd swarming into the business, and the owner tells News 12 they stole from the register and smashed bottles. There was so much damage that there was little to salvage. The owner tells News 12 he understands the injustice that happened to George Floyd but that the actions were senseless
