Jury selection started Monday in Goshen for a man accused of hiring a hit man to murder his ex-girlfriend at her Middletown business.
Patrick Bowie allegedly hired his friend, Melvin Green, to kill Fermina Nunez in her hair salon last December. Prosecutors claim Bowie even watched Green shoot the mother of four in the head.
Bowie's attorney requested a two-week delay, saying his client needed more time to raise the funds to pay for expert DNA and ballistics witnesses.
The judge denied the request and jury selection began with several of Bowie's relatives in attendance.
Melvin Green was convicted last week of pulling the trigger. He faces life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
Bowie would face the same sentence, if convicted.
