The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office say a person who was injured in a house fire in Asbury Park Friday morning has died.

The fire happened on the 500 block of Prospect Avenue.

According to the fire department’s battalion chief, it began just after 11 a.m. Friday.  The first units arrived in three minutes, and found a person inside, trapped in the flames.

The landlord of the two-family home tells News 12 one of the two injured tenants of the rear unit tried running into the front of the burning home to rescue that person but was blocked by intense smoke and fire.

Fire crews pulled the severely injured person out of the home before a waiting ambulance rushed them to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.  That person later died, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The two injured tenants in the rear unit remained alert and talking to EMTs and walked into an ambulance for further treatment.

The city tells News 12 two firefighters also went to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

An Asbury Park police officer was treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews from Bradley Beach, Deal, Neptune, and Long Branch all assisted Asbury Park’s fire department to help get the flames under control in under 30 minutes.

The cause remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal and Prosecutor along with the Asbury Park Fire Department.
