State police investigators and divers have been seen at a reservoir in Mount Hope for the last two days. 

The large police presence is unusual for the rural community of Mount Hope. Residents first reached out to News 12 late Monday afternoon alerting us to law enforcement activity and asking for help finding out why authorities are here. 

State police confirm their divers are searching a reservoir off Mount Hope Road in the town of Mount Hope as part of an investigation but won’t say what it’s about. 

People in the area say the activity is unsettling. 

“We have been going by, and people don’t really know what’s going on,” said Peaches Conquest. 

A law enforcement source tells News 12  that divers are expected to be on the scene for days, if not weeks.

“It’s a heavy presence. You can see it up and down the road. Whoever they’re looking for, I hope they find them,” said David Helfosch.
