A proposed law in Rockland County could bring the hammer down on phony contractors throughout the area.
Investigators have uncovered a home improvement scam that targets mostly seniors. As part of the scheme, phony contractors charge exorbitant prices to repave driveways.
Legislator Ed Day (R-New City) wants to improve the laws that protect homeowners from unlicensed contractors. In Day?s proposal, officials would confiscate the unlicensed contractors? trucks and tools and hold them until the workers get a license. Day believes the move would prevent future phony contractor scams. He hopes to get the measure passed by the end of the year.
