Some Hudson Valley lawmakers are calling for an independent audit of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The lawmakers, who are all Republican members of the state Assembly, say they want to know how the MTA came to need a bailout, which they all voted against but was approved by the state.
"We have an authority that has run amuck," says state Assemblyman Greg Ball. "We have an authority that has nearly half-a-dozen projects that have run over budget."
The call for an audit came on the same day the MTA approved a new package of fare increases that raise tolls on Metro-North trains by 10 percent instead of the 30 percent proposed before the bailout.
