Some Bronx lawmakers say the construction of the Croton Water Treatment Plant in Van Cortlandt Park could soak residents in high taxes.
Construction on the filtration plant is well underway, but some Bronx Assembly members are calling for a probe into the cost. Lawmakers say when construction began the project was supposed to cost less than $1 billion. Now, lawmakers say the project will cost more than $2.6 billion.
Eight of the 11 Assembly members claim the Department of Environmental Protection lied about the cost of the plant in the first place. They sent letters to Congress members calling for a full investigation into the project. They say they don?t want the cost of construction to fall onto residents? shoulders.
