A legal challenge to Rockland County's 2024 election results is moving through the courts.
The group Smart Legislation filed a lawsuit against the county's board of elections, claiming third-party Senate candidate Diane Sare received more votes than reported.
The suit highlights discrepancies in Ramapo, where some ballots showed votes for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand but not for former Vice President Kamala Harris, despite both being Democrats.
Smart Legislation is calling for a public, hand recount. "If people's votes are not being counted accurately, that is a violation of their constitutional rights, and that is something that undermines our entire democratic process," said Lulu Friesdat of Smart Legislation.
The board of elections said the claims are baseless and should be dismissed.
The case is scheduled to be heard in New York Supreme Court in September.
