Legislators on the Energy, Environment and Climate Committee grilled utility representatives Con Edison and NYSEG Thursday amid an effort to lower surging heating bills.
They called out their failures in customer outreach in anticipation of a natural gas price spike. Legislators say utility companies need to do more to help their customers.
The utility representatives say they will commit to allowing customers to spread out the payments over several months for their unexpectedly large bills.
