Lightning strikes tree in Yorktown Heights, causes house fire

The fire left a hole in the back of the home but no major damage, the fire chief said.

Lightning struck a tree in Yorktown Heights this afternoon, causing a fire that spread into the wall of a home.
The Yorktown Heights Fire Chief said the homeowner on the 300 block of Essex Fells Court called 911 just after the incident occurred around 3:38 p.m.
It was put out quickly. No injuries were reported.
The fire left a hole in the back of the home but no major damage, the chief said.
