Live Life Better: 'Living Single' actress Kim Coles helps others with new writing program

Our next guest shot to stardom as Sinclair on the classic sitcom, Living Single alongside Queen Latifa, Kim Fields and Eric Alexander. And now she's starring in Days of Our Lives and taking time to help others in her industry with her new writing program, Kim Colles is here. It is so great to see you. It's lovely to be here. Hello. Hello. We are loving the purple moment you're giving us right now. I'm giving you all purple all the time. Now, the two of us were reminiscing about living single and, and I mean, it just had an anniversary which I wasn't gonna bring up a chance 30 years. That is a, it's quite a blessing, you know, 30 years and it's never left the air even after got canceled. And, uh the six of us are still friends and we got together on a private zoom call on that day on the our anniversary day and just sort of loved on each other. It's, it's quite a remarkable thing. How would you say that that character changed your life and the trajectory of your career? You know, I have people who hug me before they even say Hello. Which can be a little, a little weird. But, uh, but a whole lot wonderful, you know, people really loved the uh experience that these, that these characters had together, the love that they had for each other, the, you know, the, the drive and ambition that they had to, to live their lives. And, you know, and Overton were sweet and, and to have an experience of an awkward black girl uh with which I am in real life. Uh It was, was fun to play and fun for people to see that there's many aspects to uh to, to us as a culture that can be embraced and love dark. Now, how different was that from surreal life when you spend uh a time, two weeks in a house with Dennis Rodman, it could, could be more different. Uh We spent a lot of time watching him walk around naked. He's very free with himself and he is absolutely an awesome, awesome spirit. Really? I enjoyed him thoroughly. Oh, wow. Well, there are rumors that you have another man in your life. Now, what can you tell us? Neither, confirm nor deny uh Other than I am blissfully in love with Doctor Ej Johnson, boss and the boss stands for the boyfriend of sexy sweetness. He's my boss. I like that. The boss. Well, congratulations. It's great to see you in love and loving it. Got the shine, the glove. And now you're also on days of our live. Oh, yes. Oh, I played now, here's the good news. The contrast between Sinclair and Nurse Whitley could not be further. I sort of remember the movie Misery With Cathy Bates. Yes, with that scene was Cathy Bates. So, you know, sort of a version of it. I kidnapped someone. I may or may not have been out apprehended by the FBI. Uh, and so to have a chance to play Nurse Whitley who was a little, a little off and um a whole lot of fun and experienced a whole new world like the, listen, the respect that soap opera actors need to have, you need to give it to them because they spend their brain memorizing lines and um quite a, a fresh experience for me and taking that from everything you've learned over your career, from memorizing lines to writing lines, tell us about the right plan. Well, you know, I'm a four time best selling author and I've helped over 90 authors also become best selling authors. And so I'm, I'm in that phase in my life, Elizabeth and, and, and Shannon where I want to teach what I know. And so the right plan is a way for me to help authors get this captivating book idea out of their heads and into the hearts and minds of those who would want to read their, their stories, their, read their book and read their ideas. And so I help people with the right plan of creating a legacy for themselves that others, people, that other people get to participate in. So it's, it's great to now teach what I know and it must be so great to connect with people and watch their, their dreams come alive. Yeah, watch their stories. I'm a, I'm a fan of story, not only as an actor, but also as a coach. And so I love coaching people through their stories and, and finding the nuggets that resonate with the rest of us. And so that's the kind of work I'm doing when I'm not stabbing people with, with me on, on days of our lives. And when I'm not loving the world in whatever other ways I do.
