A group of championship-level dogs from northern Westchester and Putnam will be among the 3,000 pups competing in this year's Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown.
Taconic Hills Kennel Club Treasurer Patti Murphy is leading her Grand Champion Platinum pup Drew and several others into the breed ring on Monday.
Murphy runs the K9 Kids Westchester 4H Club which works with five-to-19 year olds to train dogs for therapy, obedience, agility and show.
4H is part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension and serves as a youth program to connect kids and teens with others who share similar interests and want to learn by doing.
"It's such an honor to have your dog reach that level," said Murphy.
Ellie Sheridan, 15, and her sister Amelia, 18, are part of the program and will be competing against Murphy with a pair of Belgian Tervurens the three co-own. The breed's appearance projects alertness and elegance and is known for its loyalty, versatility and intelligence.
