Officials in Rockland County are mourning the sudden death of their longtime county clerk Friday.
Ed Gorman, 75, who served as Rockland County clerk for the past 16 years died in his Suffern home of an apparent heart attack. Gorman was seeking his fifth term as county clerk unopposed and was considered by others as a politician who easily crossed party lines. Gorman, who was known for his sense of humor, was chairman of the Rockland County Legislature representing the town of Ramapo before becoming elected as county clerk.
The flags at the county courthouse will fly at half-staff for three days to mourn the public official. A memorial service is planned where thousands are expected to attend at the Montebello Jewish Center on Sunday.
