A family-owned company in Kearny is celebrating 60 years of building equipment that helps keep electricity flowing across North America.
MAC Products manufactures custom electrical infrastructure equipment used by utilities, mass transit systems and other industries.
"MAC Products is a solutions-based manufacturer for electrical infrastructure products and projects throughout North America," said President Eddie Russnow. "We're heavily tied to electrical utility work and electrified mass transit."
The company builds everything from metal connectors that link high-voltage power lines to custom steel cabinets that house switching equipment at electrical substations.
MAC Products also manufactures cooling and control systems designed to keep critical electrical equipment operating safely.
Founded in 1967 with just three employees, the family-run business has grown to a workforce of 120 and is now in its third generation of ownership.
Workers at the facility build custom products designed to meet specific customer needs.
"What we're doing here is building a product that's going to be used in an inverter cabinet that will eventually be put either in a locomotive or on a rig in the Gulf of Mexico for oil or gas drilling," Russnow said.
The company also plays a role in transportation systems used by New Jersey commuters.
"You might be familiar with the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system right here in our backyard," Russnow said. "That is powered by our equipment. And it has been for 30 years."
Russnow says quality remains a top priority.
"Our staff takes a lot of pride in the things that we do, and it shows in the quality of what we output to our customers," he said.
