There’s nothing like starting the day with a classic cup of coffee, especially one made in the Hudson Valley.
That’s the mantra shared by employees at Peekskill Coffee House, who make it their mission to connect with the community one cup of coffee at a time.
"It came about out of a personal need for a really great cup of coffee and a place to meet my neighbors and bring the community together," said Sunny Cover, owner of Peekskill Coffee House. "If you go to the coffee house, the staff is going to learn your name, learn your drink [and] start to know something about you. People feel seen there by the staff."
The shop offers cups with flavors originating from countries including Colombia, Brazil, Honduras and Guatemala. It's all roasted right in Westchester County.
"In 2018, we started roasting our own coffee," Cover said. "Right now, we have six different origins and two blends that we offer."
Cover's idea of connecting with the community not only applies to the shop’s customers, but also its competitors. That idea led Cover to open up a special roasting facility right down the road from the shop called Ryze Collective.
"I really like the idea of having a collective space for business-to-business community within coffee," she said. "This is a space where not just Peekskill Coffee House roasts their coffee...other coffee companies [also] come in and do production of their own coffee roasting."
For those who aren't coffee drinkers, Peekskill Coffee House also offers other breakfast options such as smoothies and a wide variety of pastries. The wide array of choices keeps people coming back for more.
"The most common thing that I hear is that people actually have bought their homes because the coffee house was here in Peekskill," Cover said.
Peekskill Coffee House is located at 101 S Division St. in Peekskill. The shop also sells packages of its coffee on its website.
