The 97th annual Academy Awards are just a few days away, and one Westchester County shop is getting in on the action.
However, this isn't the first red-carpet rodeo for Posh Pretzels in Tarrytown, which offers a wide variety of chocolate-covered pretzels. That includes flavors like Reese's, M&M's, cotton candy and peppermint.
"We've become known for our flavor collection and our stuffed collection as well," said AnnMarie D'Erasmo, the chief chocolate officer at the shop. "We use super high-quality chocolate, all imported. So, that makes all the difference."
D'Erasmo's passion for creating all things sweet and sharing them with the community started more than 10 years ago, ultimately forming Posh Pretzels into what it is today.
"This was something I did out of the house initially with a friend, actually," she explained. "I was really more interested in doing unique pretzels: things with edible glitter, hand-painted designs, and hand-painted molds. Then, the flavors sort of took on a life of their own."
After officially opening in October 2014, D'Erasmo was determined to put Posh Pretzels on the map. She wanted to do something big, and what better way of doing that than rolling out the red carpet for the swag bags that nominees receive on Hollywood's biggest night?
"I remember thinking, ‘I need people to know that I exist. How do I let them know I exist?’" she explained. "I was sitting at a stoplight, and I heard a commercial for the Oscars that were coming up that February. I thought to myself, ‘Well, that's the type of press I need.’ I then literally found out who managed their bags, gave them a call and introduced myself. A few days later, I had a contract."
Seven Oscars later, that customer reaction stays the same year-round, making D'Erasmo grateful for this sweet journey.
" This brings me joy and it brings my customers joy, and I never imagined that I would be in this position," she said. "Starting the day after the Oscars, they'll come in [and say,] 'We saw you here, we saw you there. What did you make for them?' They like to see what we actually made [for the nominees]...the Oscars [are] the ultimate pat on the back and I'm grateful for it."
Posh Pretzels is located at 7 N Broadway in Tarrytown. D'Erasmo also ships nationwide, so customers from outside of Westchester County can get a taste of Tarrytown too. Individual flavors can be bought here, while platters and gift boxes can be purchased here.
