A Poughkeepsie man found a gun in Fall Kill creek while magnet fishing on Monday.
Lawrence Stone tells News 12 what started as a calm day of magnet fishing quickly turned into a surprise.
“When I threw my magnet…clipped onto it very hard,” says Stone. “As I pulled it up, I noticed the weight.”
The Dutchess County man says he “freaked out” once he realized it wasn’t a toy gun.
Stone says magnet fishing is a hobby he and his wife started two years ago to help clean up the area.
Stone says they usually find tools and even bikes, but never weapons.
“If that gun would’ve gotten in the wrong hands, someone cleaning that up would’ve had another problem on the street,” says Stone. “It’s always good to get guns off the street.”
