Survivors and community members reunited in person today as they walked for breast cancer at Manhattanville College.
About 5,000 people were dressed in pink at the event. The American Cancer Society nonprofit organization put on the annual walk to celebrate survivors and raise awareness that breast cancer is treatable with early detection. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
According to the ACS, screenings for many cancers went down by about 90 % during the pandemic because people were afraid of hospitals.
Sunday's walk has potentially raised more than $600,000 so far for cancer research.
