Mamakating town official accused of child sex abuse out on bail
A Sullivan County official accused of repeated child sex abuse is now out on bail.
Robert Hufcut, 55, was charged late last month for allegedly abusing a child under the age of 11 two decades ago.
Hufcut is the Town of Mamakating highway superintendent.
Officials say he cannot be suspended from his duties since his job is an elected position.
Hufcut has not returned to work but remains on the payroll.
According to online state records, the town official made more than $124,000 last year.
Hufcut was also chief of the Summitville Fire Department.
Fire officials say he has been removed from the department and relieved of his volunteer duties.
