Officials in Mamaroneck are preparing for the worst with the impending nor?easter.
The forecast is calling for the possibility of several inches of rain and wind gusts that could approach 50 mph. Mamaroneck was hit extremely hard by flooding on March 2 and the village is trying to avoid a repeat performance.
Three task forces made up of firefighters, police officers and Con Ed workers will operate as teams under a single command to handle any emergency throughout the village. One major concern for responders is rapidly rising water that could trap people in their cars or homes. Mamaroneck Fire Chief Barry Casterella says warnings are going out to homeowners in flood-prone neighborhoods.
An evacuation center will be set up at Mamaroneck High School where residents will be allowed to bring their pets.
